HOME STUDIO POLICIES
1) Lesson
Fees:
Lesson Fees are $26.00 per half
hour
Please check
out the appropriate pay schedule to find out the yearly fee for your length of
lesson.
2) Please remember to pack your lesson books on your piano day! Each
week bring your current books. If you purchase or have extra Classical or pop
books that you think may be suitable, bring them along anytime! Please
bring a binder for extra handouts.
Each student should have a special bag to carry
their music books in – to protect them & keep them all in one place instead
of loose in their backpack
I will ask you to purchase books for your child. Long and McQuade in Waterloo has piano music for purchase. You can also purchase music online from Amazon.ca
3) Lessons may
be rescheduled due to illness.
The studio
policy is that lessons are pre-paid with one grace lesson made up for absence
or illness each term. Lessons cancelled due to inclement weather or school
closures will be made up. Missed lessons where no notice is given will be
forfeited without refund.
4) Teacher cancellations will be made up
as soon as possible or the lesson fee will be refunded at the end of the year.
5) Once a
student has registered for music lessons it is expected that he/she will
continue through the whole year except under extenuating circumstances. A place
in the studio has been reserved for him/her, and other students have been
turned away to hold that space for your student. Therefore, if the student
chooses to stop taking lessons partway through the year, one month’s fees will
be withheld.
6) Regular practicing is essential
for students to progress in piano. Unlike sports, piano practising happens at
home on a daily basis. The purpose of each lesson is for the teacher to
demonstrate new concepts and work on developing skills beyond what the student
is able to do in a daily practise. Students who practice consistently will
receive daily positive feedback as they notice gradual improvements in their
playing. Students who are expected to practice more than 30 minutes a day are
welcome to split that time into two separate sessions to help stay focused, or
squeeze a full practice into their busy schedule. Quality focused practicing is
just as important as quantity!
7) Recitals are an important part of my
music studio. Piano can be a solitary activity. Performing at the recital is a
wonderful way to share your student’s music with family, friends, grandparents
and other students; and to develop their skill as a performer. There will be a recital in December and June.
8) Tuning – please contact Paul Wall
(Wall’s Piano Tuning 519-744-2744) or Mark Veenman (Apollo Piano 519-699-6274).
An out of tune or poorly maintained piano is often a significant reason why
students quit lessons!
Thank you for
your help in ensuring our piano lessons run as smoothly as any weekly activity you’re involved
in.
